A huge win for Web3 mobile games took place this week as part of the Apple lawsuit with Epic Games; mobile apps listed in the iOS app store are now allowed to link to external shopping resources for their respective companies. Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Games, to the tune of $69 billion, would have been “the biggest tech deal in history,” according to NPR, but was blocked this week by British regulators. The main concern by regulators is the potential absence of competition in the gaming market should the two major gaming companies merge.
Following the announcement at the Game Developers Conference in March that Epic Games would be overhauling its creator strategy to provide 40% of revenue to in-game creators, a group of 5 top influencers in the gaming sector started a collaboration for “Project V,” a custom Fortnite Creative mode game which they announced this week. Project V is expected to launch in Q2 2024 and be a contender for the №1 Creative experience with the backing of 120 million fans by its influencer creators.
